Ballroom Dancing Park

I.

Twenty dancing couples

The Blue Danube ringing clear

Dainty feet like tops upon

            The marble floor

Errant rays of light on faces of delight

Cinderella and her prince

Surrounded by walls of mirrors

Countless flashes of scarlet velvet

Piles of top hats all the same

A ball without a flaw

Gay laughter singing high while

Grand chuckles echo in unison

            Conversation surrounds

                        Voices become one

II.

You and I

Him and her

Lord and Lady

One steady gaze and slow waltz

A cruel torture as feet move steadily

Eyes shrouded in mist, but no water

Parched mouths

Only dance

Not wine

Pounding beats within the ear

Waltz drowned out by steady roar

Bright spark invisible as

Palms brush and part anew

Vision askew

Only swirls of red marble

Lashes tickling skin, darkness again

Shoes still moving, dress too

Ending beats soon to come

Heat enough to wish for snow

Dizzying cloud of red and you

III.

Vision back, only blue hue

Eyes that lock and share of

            All to come

As waltz fades

Ballroom recedes into imagination

Cinderella gone at twelve strike

Now only breaths collide in

Cool winter dusk

You and I

            Waltzing alone

Velvet gowns, sweaters

Top hats, woolen caps

Sparks, beats, mouths, mist remain

            We start again
